When the weather gets chilly, we go inside. Winter Guard has the same concepts as Color Guard, but instead of performing to our band's live music on the field, we create and perform to pre-recorded music indoors.
We rehearse 4-5 days a week, learning different dance and equipment techniques and choreography. Our goal is to create a full show that tells a story and/or portrays the story that the song lyrics tell. We bring the song to life visually. Along with competition, parades and school assembly performances, we also perform our show one last time for our family, friends and community at our Annual Winter Showcase every April. We end our season performing with the band in the Holland Happening Parade at end of April.
The Winter Guard program is a part of the
Pacific Performing Arts Association's competition circuit. Even though we compete, we are still a young program and have chosen to continue to open up and allow new students to come and try it out. We want to make this program available to every interested student regardless of skill level. Our auditions are not competitive and we accept all students who meet our minimum criteria. Returning members (from the Fall season) learn advanced skills while new members conquer the basics, which are VERY important fundamentals of guard. We use the same equipment mentioned
HERE and sometimes add in additional props for extra fun, extra challenge and/or effect.
The 2024 Winter Guard show was titled, "Kintsugi: Embrace Your Flaws" and won 2nd place in both competitions attended, including the PPA Winter Guard State Championships.
